2023 AR Urban Forestry Council Spring Virtual Seminar Series Two Event Dates are listed below LACES & ISA CEUs have been applied for Tough Trees for Tough Sites When: April 27, 2023 from Noon–1:00pmLocation: Online, via ZoomCost: Free Zoom Registration: https://bit.ly/AUFCToughTrees Tree selection in urban environments is complex. Urban soils are often dramatically altered by soil removal, replacement, and compaction making the survival of newly planted trees difficult. In addition, trees in urban areas may be subjected to extreme heat, drought, periodic flooding, and pollution. This one-hour virtual presentation will highlight some trees that are known to tolerate difficult urban conditions and discuss ways to improve tree survival in these tough conditions. Presented by: Krista Quinn, County Extension Agent, University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture Hazardous Tree Identification and Management When: May 18, 2023 from Noon–1:00pmLocation: Online, via ZoomCost: Free Zoom Registration: https://bit.ly/AUFCHazardousTrees Trees provide many benefits to people and communities. However, trees can be dangerous if they are poorly maintained, damaged, or diseased. Identifying hazardous trees and taking action to reduce the likelihood of tree failure is a critical component of tree care. In this one-hour virtual training, participants will learn what types of tree defects and conditions can lead to failure, how tree risk is assessed, and what types of actions can be taken to mitigate tree risk.
