CRG – Our First Workday

First workday, March in 2016, was a busy month. We had the ground crew put metal edging around the holies in the garden and add edging around a long row of new holies that were planted in front of the large brick wall.  The plants there had been severely damaged by weedeaters. We also pruned the roses down to one foot and cleaned out years of debris that had accumulated. We also fertilized the roses for the first time and decided on a pruning and fertilizing schedule.

PC Courthouse pruning and feeding schedule:

  • Hard prune. Late Feb or early March. Feed late March heavy 12-12-12. 1 1/2 cups per bush
  • Two more hair cuts. Late May. Feed regular 1 cup
  • Late June or Early July Feed regular 1 cup
  • Last cut last of Aug. Feed regular 1 cup
  • Cut “wild shoots” Or “wild hairs” when they sprout
