Field Guide to Edible Wild Plants

I stumbled on Sam Thayer work late last year and just received my copy of his new Field Guide to Edible Wild Plants of Eastern & Central North America. This field guide is an excellent resource for recognizing and understanding the value of edible wild plants in our region. Collecting wild foods has increased in popularity in mainstream society since the pandemic. However, foraging for foods has been a necessity for Indigenous peoples and other marginalized communities in America for centuries.

With an infusion of a little Botany on the go, Sam breaks down what “edible” means in the context of four criteria, nutritive, digestible, nonpoisonous, and rewarding. This volume also includes a handy section, Finding edible wild plants by habitat and season and a illustrated glossary.

I hope you enjoy this read as much as I have.
