Our dedicated Master Gardeners Barbara, Pat, Kay, Juanita, Suni, Sue, Carol, Scott, Dick, Bea, and volunteer Ken had a productive workday, tackling tasks like pulling out pansies, raking beds, applying urea, thinned irises, hostas, and rudbeckia. There was a bounty of extra plants to share with Hays members and our Master Gardeners. Ken and Scott were in high demand with root slayers in hand, Pat added a large Autumn Joy sedum, and Juanita planted ostrich fern roots, Michele, our Amazing Chair, organizing and championing our efforts always on the ready with tools to borrow. Carol identified all the natives that have sprouted from the soil in the new pollinator/native bed.
In a special moment, Barbara planted three beautiful baptisia in the triangular end of the long bed, creating a living memorial for our dear Master Gardener, Frankie. We hold Frankie’s memory close as we continue to nurture this garden.
Adding a sweet touch to our efforts, one of the wonderful Hays Center employees recognized our team by gifting each of us a bag of popcorn adorned with a cool volunteer pin which I plan to wear with pride.
Thanks to our amazing volunteers and the thoughtful staff at the Hays Center, we continue to make our community better!
