Our guest speaker today is the Facility Manager of Potlatch Conservation Education Center, an Arkansas Game and Fish Commission education center located at Casscoe, east of Stuttgart.
She graduated from Harding Academy and Harding University at Searcy. After teaching three years at the in the West Side Greer’s Ferry District near Heber Springs, she moved to Stuttgart where she taught Biology and Applied Biology-Chemistry for 27years.
She has been with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission going on 17 years now at the Cook’s Lake Unit, a special part of the Dale Bumpers White River National Wildlife Refuge, St. Charles that has been set aside for conservation education of youth and mobility impaired as its primary function and with a secondary function of working with conservation groups such as teachers, Scouts, Master Gardeners, Master Naturalists, and Audubon groups just to mention a few.
In Stuttgart she is well known as “The Hummingbird Lady!”
She has been banding hummingbirds since 2008 and is the only person in the State of Arkansas that holds a Master Hummingbird Banding Permit issued by the U.S. Department of Interior.
She is a past Vice-president of the Arkansas County Master Gardener chapter and is currently serving as Treasurer for Beta Omega chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma in Stuttgart, and leads a Ladies’ Bible Study class at the Stuttgart Church of Christ.
